I kinda love that you clicked on that — I love a good surprise, too. 😉 I thought I would use this page so we could get to know a little more about each other… on a topic that doesn’t exactly fit elsewhere on this site, but is so important just the same.
Something maybe surprising about me? Through the course of my lifetime I’ve had the privilege of teaching inner city students in Atlanta, teaching computer skills to former gang members looking to enter the workforce in Los Angeles, and helping makeover kitchens for low-income families near Seattle. One of my core beliefs is that having someone who believes in you and sees the best in you can completely change the course of your life. It’s part of why I love working 1-on-1 with clients so much.
So now as a business owner, it’s especially important to me to give others the same opportunity to make their mark on the world, get out of poverty, and raise their entire community. That’s why I donate a portion of every order to La Cocina, a non-profit that helps low-income food entrepreneurs turn their small, home-based businesses selling things like tamales and honey cakes, into official and sustainable businesses. 100 percent of the donations go to program costs for workshops, affordable kitchen space, industry-specific technical assistance, and access to events to grow a business like farmer’s markets.
We’re all in this together, right?
