Food Mindset Reset: Day 4

One of the most common things I hear is how much the scale can play into someone’s mindset. Have you ever felt like you can be having a totally healthy week, feeling confident in your clothes, and just generally crushing it in life… and then all the sudden the scale shuts it down?

Today’s tip will help with that:

Instead of focusing on OUTCOME, shift your focus to BEHAVIOR.

An outcome is something like an end result or goal. Pounds lost, inches gained, etc. When your focus is there, it’s so easy to feel defeated when the scale doesn’t match your expectations every single day. Even if you’re FEELING great, it’s so easy for your mind to start obsessing over a specific number. Pretty soon, you’re wondering why you’re even bothering with spinach if the scale isn’t going to reflect your efforts. Not even taking into account that the scale fluctuates with things like water, salt, time of the month, muscle gain, etc.

But if you focus on the BEHAVIORS along the way to your goal, you can win every single day, and the outcome is eventually inevitable. For example, maybe you focus on:

  • Getting in your 20 minutes of activity. Check.
  • Drinking your 8 cups of water. Nailed it.
  • Sneaking in an extra serving of greens at lunch. Like a boss.

 

By focusing on the behaviors alone, you can take back your power into things you can actually control, and how GOOD they make you feel, regardless of what some arbitrary tool outside your own body says for the day. Focusing on behavior over outcome allows you to keep your eye on the prize: simply getting in your action, consistently, over time, as your health evolves at a pace that feels safe and sustainable for it.
